Transition to the Circular Economy (The German Experience as a Model)
Abstract
The circular economy offers solutions to mitigate the worsening of environmental problems and reduce emission rates that threaten the environment, contribute to global warming, and cause rising global temperatures, along with the accumulation of the harmful effects of unregulated and uncontrolled economic activity. In addition, the circular economy helps preserve the rights of future generations, protect the environment from all pollutants, and emphasizes the necessity of recycling waste and integrating it into economic activities to achieve a cleaner environment, better health, and a higher quality of life. The importance of this research lies in highlighting Germany’s experience in transitioning to a circular economy, serving as an advanced model that can be utilized to build a strong and sustainable economy. The research adopted a descriptive-analytical approach, analyzing data through detailed tables. The study found that Germany has made notable progress in waste and consumable materials recycling projects, whereas water recycling initiatives still require further development and greater contributions to generate added value surpluses in the circular economy. The results also indicated that the use of recycled materials in industry remains limited, despite a relatively strong research interest, as evidenced by the number of registered patents. Moreover, the study demonstrated that the circular economy has contributed to the creation of new job opportunities, reflecting its promising investment potential. The study recommends increasing support for innovation and research, expanding circular projects, encouraging industries to use recycled materials, and enhancing water recycling projects to achieve greater environmental and economic integration.
